Hello Fuso Friends,
Just to share with you our latest experiences to ship our Fuso to Canada.
After a lot of email exchange and considerations we decided to ship with Caravan Shippers in Hamburg. Basically you have 2 professional shipping agents in Germany being Seabridge and Caravan Shippers. Seabridge is doing this already for decades and Caravan Shippers is the “new kid on the block”, now operational for almost 3 years.
That was exactly my hesitation, ship our Fuso with a new company with lesser experience. But this hesitation wasn’t necessary because this new company knows exactly what they are doing. We have a very good experience with them and they are substantially cheaper then Seabridge for exactly the same services:
– Our Fuso shipped from Hamburg to Halifax with full cover insurance with ACL line was €4650 all in (only excluding 150 CAD$ for custom clearing). This is for our Fuso measuring 8×3.5×2.25 and includes a motorcycle on the rear of the camper
– Seabridge offered exactly the same for around €1600 more
– The communications with Caravan Shippers (Laura Ritter) went very well and they respond 7 days a week quickly to any question you have
– Delivering the Fuso in the Hamburg harbor is very personalized and Ricardo Gomes guides you all the way through the paperwork and harbor procedures. Final inspection of the camper inside the harbor area was done in our presence. After delivering the camper Ricardo brings you to any place in Hamburg to connect you to public transport. All very good service.
– Good thing is that Caravan Shippers is located in Hamburg and they have very good connections with all shipping lines and the harbor authorities
– Caravan Shippers is covering all the global routes available to all continents, only doing campers and camper trucks
The camper can be fully packed as long it makes a tidy impression inside, just make sure that your LPG tank is empty. Final inspection on the harbor premises was very easy. Food and drinks (including alcoholic) isn’t a problem as long closed / packed in the original packing. Seabridge stated that it isn’t allowed to stow any liquids or food !!??
Both Seabridge and Caravan Shippers stated in advance that you have to deliver all your camper keys, to enable harbor or ship personnel to enter your camper and all the compartments when deemed necessary. Of course this isn’t feeling very comfortable, but to our surprise we only had lo leave behind the ignition key and the driver door key. All the rest is locked and we took the keys with us !!!
We have chosen to ship to Halifax, mainly because shipment to the US can give issues at the US harbor. They change the import rules more or less by the day and that can give a lot of hassle. Canada import rules are stable and easy. Only issue (or fun) is that we will arrive in cold winter weather !!!
Our Fuso is currently underway sitting dry and warm on the ACL ship “Atlantic Sea”. Expect to arrive in Halifax on 9 March. Will give an update how things are when collecting in Halifax.
Grüße,
Branko

Hi Harry,
Ricardo and the ACL inspector were just happy with my statement that I emptied the tank, no further actions required and no certificates.
This is because Caravan Shippers is local in Hamburg and all the guys knows each other, they got the trust from the harbor and ACL people.
Seabridge would charge another €400 for the flush certificate, but they are from Düsseldorf . . . . 😉
Greetz and Hugs
