Hello Fuso Friends,
Sorry, but our text in English. Our German speaking ok, but writing is another story !!
We got our Woelcke Fuso delivered during the summer of 2018 after it was showed by Woelcke at the Abenteuer & Allrad messe in Bad Kissingen. We made already some trips to test the Fuso into the Nordkapp and Marokko.
We are very satisfied with our vehicle and especially the desert driving in Marokko went better than expected. Now we are preparing for our world tour starting in 2020.
We are a Dutch couple and we traveled the world already on 2 wheels with our BMW GS's, but getting a little bit older now (63 & 63), so we added 2 wheels and the Fuso chassis was basically chosen because of its said reliability, easy repairs around the globe and the ability to carry our BMW F800GS motorcycle at the back. We are very happy with the build quality of Firma Woelcke and the machine gives us all the comfort and flexibility we need.
Half September we will be at the Kunzmann workshop in Stockstadt and hopefully that will be a good moment to meet some of you, exchanging travel stories and of course discussing around all kind of Fuso stuff.

Your Marokko-sand-experience is interesting me. Seems like you use the tires 285/70R19.5. Which type/company exactly? Which sand-routes in Marokko did you drive and what‘s your total weight? Which air-pressure do you use?

Hi Helmut,
Indeed using 285/70x19.5, from Hankook type Smartflex DH35. Against all specs these tires are great in sand because of the flat profile. You have to be a little bit careful on stone tracks but we didn't had any problems driving thousands km's on sand and stone. On normal roads front approx 5 bar and 6 bar rear, stone tracks around 1 bar less and in deep sand we even went below 2 bar. With this pressure you have to watch for sharp steering (risk of tire coming off the rim) and stone tracks could damage the sidewall. But these tires do have 5 layers of reinforcement, so they are tough to puncture. Cost less than €300 a piece and available around the globe.
We were for 2 weeks driving with another couple in a Discovery following the Algerian border and we were all very surprised how easy our truck came through even very deep sand and fes-fes.
In mud and clay these tires are probably not very good, but didn't really tested yet in these conditions. Water crossing went well.
The weight loaded (including our BMW F800) is around 6400 kg with tanks full.
We did many tracks in Marokko, for example Merzouga to Foam Zguid following the Algerian border. Western Sahara, Esmara to Assa straight through the desert even without tracks. But this one was quite demanding because of the steep and stone hills we had to cross.

thanks for your detailed information!
How is the driving-comfort with theese tyres on tracks or streets with many and deep potholes?
Since yersterday i‘m driving together with a Bimobil Sprinter EX365 and on very bad roads where they are driving with about 30-40km/h, i‘m far under 20km/h, because you dont hold out otherwise.
Did you change anything at your springs or shock-absorber?

I still have the Fuso standard suspension, only Kunzmann made some small modifications to improve comfort on bad roads. But the comfort level is still not perfect and I am considering the DFF / Marquart solution.
On bad roads we did an average of approx 25km/h, check if your free space above your rubber suspension blocks is approx 30 mm with a fully loaded vehicle.
What helps is lowering the tire pressure, especially the front ones because the original leaf suspension is very ridged. But on stone roads don't go below 3.5 - 4 bar for the front tires, otherwise you will damage them too fast.

so i think you have the same comfort-problemes like most of us. I drive a Continental HD3 and that is similar to your Hankook and so the problems are similar. But good to know, that this setting is working great in sand.
Our rubber suspension blocks are as short as possible and i have 3.7bar in front-tyres and 6.5bar in rear-tyres on normal roads. That depends on a table from Continental and our weight, which is nearly the same like yours. We have Marquart-shok-absorbers and original springs. I tested a car with DFF&Marquart-parts and i felt only a little, but no significant difference.
I also tested a car with tyres like they are used in Australia and that was a very great difference, so such tyres are a solution. But the australian tyres have a too low load-index. Olly used in the US similar tyres but with a sufficient load-index and said that they perhaps are soon available in EU. Olly, do you have further information?

Very interesting to see your experiences and I agree, probably we have more or less the same (dis) comfort level.

this time unfortunately i‘ll not be there. I just come back from my journey at end of october ????
But Olly will be there and he has the DFF/Marquart-Solution and perhaps Toni from Traunstein will be there, he is the guy with the australian tyres. So you can try by yourself and see the difference. What i have ever in my mind that Toni drove with a 50km/h-speed over a sidewalk-edge and nothing happend.

Hi Helmut,
technically they should be available in Europe since May, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get hold on these tires yet. The - apparently - only distributor in Germany first took my order, but didn't deliver them to me and now after 4 months told me, they refuse to order them for me. ????
I contacted the manufaturer and hope to get any information where to buy them, but right now I don't now how to get them.
